From 2004 through 2008 an estimated 518 million pounds of drywall was imported from China and installed in U.S. homes. The tremendous rise in the importation of this construction material was caused by an increased demand during the housing boom as well as the new building caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. An estimated 36 thousand to 100 thousand homes nationwide may now contain this imported drywall from China.
Scientific analysis, recently confirmed by the Federal Government, has proven that Chinese drywall contains sulfur compounds that are released into the air and cause deterioration of different components in the home. Air conditioning coils, metal plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures and other home appliances become corroded as they are exposed to the sulfur compounds.
Cases are being filed around the Country but Florida has been particularly had hit. This is related to the building boom that took place throughout the State. Signs to look for are the smell of sulfur compounds (like rotten eggs), black corrosion on facets and other metal devices and the need to replace air conditioning coils. With our team of experts including inspectors and scientists we are prepared to help clients deal with the problems arising from the contamination caused by Chinese drywall. We will help guide them through this difficult process, answer their questions and see to it that their case is properly handled.
